Today's Project

My high chair looked like this this morning.  You can't tell in the picture but all of the plastic covering was ripped and hanging in pieces.

Now it looks like this:

It turned out better than I thought it would and I'm quite happy with it!  Now I'm off to pack for Winnipeg tomorrow with my mom and Reese!  A girls overnight shopping trip.... can't wait.

Hello again old friend

Time for an update I think.  I am in Christmas mode already.  I made a list of all the baking I want to do.  In that list is butter tarts, white chocolate and cranberry shortbread, peanut butter and marshmallow cake, magic bars, nuts and bolts and caramel corn.  I have already ordered our Christmas cards.  The house is mostly fall cleaned... just the kitchen left!  And I have been tackling some special quilt-y Christmas gifts which I will post later.  I finished a Christmas table runner for my mom for her birthday.  It kinda turned out all bunchy and I was not impressed but its not terrible.   Oh well.  When I do the quilts for Christmas I will be a lot more diligent when I put the top, batting and back together!!

Reese is in preschool and dance and doing ok at both.  We still have the odd outburst from her but it's getting less and less.  I took her skating last Friday and that lasted about 10 minutes and a couple falls on her bum before she was screaming and crying at me that she was done!  I think I have her convinced to go back again sometime and hopefully this year we can at least achieve balance on her skates!

Nixon is now pulling himself up on things and is getting really good at going from crawling to sitting to knees to standing.  He's a very mobile little dude.  He smiles at the drop of a hat except for this week as he had a terrible cold that lasted 5 days.

Sully is pretty uneventful I guess.... he is just talking more.  He wants to skate too so next time we might all try and go and see how he fares.

I have a ton of crafty projects left to do and am just trying to do a little each day as I can.  I have the one quilt top done for Christmas and the other one awaiting some letter appliques.  I have the material all ready to go for my new high chair cover.  And I need to make Nixon a Christmas stocking and maybe do a little embellishment to the other ones stockings too.  Wish me luck!

Fall!

It's been a long time hasn't it??
Oops.  September is gone and all I can say is good riddance!  Not that I don't love a long fall it's just that we were all sick for the month of September, thus trapped at home.  Reese had Scarlet fever/strep throat, then I had strep, then the boys and myself have impetigo and Staph infections.  So we're all on antibiotics at last and things are looking up.

What's new.... Reese has started preschool again.  This year its 2 days a week and she is loving it.  There are nineteen 4 year olds in her class this year!  All those kids in one room, sounds like a nightmare to me.  ha ha.  She is starting dance this afternoon and she is pumped for that and I am going to try and get her skating this year also.

First day of preschool!!

Sullivan is a normal, 2 year old bruiser.  He constantly has a goose egg on his head.  He loves to torment and cause trouble.  He is talking a lot more.  He says thank-you, CC, Nicky, Yep, No, More, Don't, Mom, Dad, and has recently started putting small sentences together.  He loves to play hockey and throw a ball around.  I think I will also get him skating this year.

And Nixon is sort of crawling, pulling himself around.  He is VERY active which is interesting.  He has already fallen down a couple stairs due to a door being left open by his brother.  He loves to mimic you and will try and repeat the noises you make.  He already has a sense of humor and loves his big brother and sister, who although they torment him, they also can make him giggle like no one else!

This was his first time trying pudding!!  He loved it.  (duh!)
And I am taking the boot camp class again every Thursday evening and I will be curling every Tuesday starting the end of the month.  I have been liking the cooler weather and trying some new recipes, lasagna soup, apple cake, raspberry cheese cake cupcakes, to mention a few.  I will post a few new recipes shortly.  We have been trying to get some family pictures taken but with all the illness I have had to cancel twice already.  We did manage to get a family picture in Winnipeg at Assiniboine park the beginning of the month but I really want some more of the kids!

Also...

I had a birthday a few weeks ago...

I was very spoiled by my family... an ice cream cake, a whole box of books to read, and a date day with my hubby.  It was wonderful.  We had two meals away from the kids, went to the movies and saw The Help ( which was wonderful... as is the book... highly recommend both!)

This is what I have been up to, besides the regular stuff.

I set up a little sewing corner in the basement so I could put my sewing stuff out and leave it out.  I have been puttering away in my spare time and loving it!  This was for baby Leo... I say was because after I took this pic I got fussy and was going to go over the stitching in one corner... it got jammed in my machine and in getting it out I ripped a tiny  hole in it.  I was not impressed.  Since then I have purchased a few more onesies that I am going to embellish for the little boys and girls in my life!
Jammie pants for the kids out of leftover flannel.  These are for Reese.
Refrigerator bread and butter pickles.  So easy and delicious.  A good way to use some of my mountain of cukes.  Recipe garnered from http://mennonitegirlscancook.blogspot.com/2008/08/refridgerator-bread-and-butter-pickles.html
I also have blanched, bagged and froze bags of beans, peas and lastly shredded zucchini.   Next up will be our apples which are thisclose to being ready.

July roundup

Summer days have been wonderful.  This is the best summer I have had in awhile and me and the kids have been living outside as much as we can.  We had a few fun things happen in July... my nephew's 3rd birthday party, a new nephew born, a family trip to Grand Forks, a family gathering with Scott's family, pool parties with our new, bigger, much improved blow up pool, and a few other impromptu get togethers and day trips here and there.

Amongst all of the fun we've also been getting some work done around here and the yard and garden are looking really good.  We have an amazing crop of potatoes, green beans, peas, carrots, zuchinni and now cucumbers coming.  I've managed to freeze a fair bit of the beans and peas and the rest we have been enjoying fresh.  I was also able to buy some fresh berries at the farmer market last weekend and made a batch of strawberry saskatoon jam.  Mmmm.

Hope that everyone else is enjoying their summer as much as we are!!

What we've been up to... in photos

And also a Black Keys concert, a shopping afternoon with the girls, dinner on the patio at Carlos & Murphy's with a margarita, and a night on a patio with spiced rum & cokes.

This was my fave from the concert....

And tomorrow we have the Matz's from Regina and the Biberdorf's from Rapid City for a fun filled chiropractor night and day.   I'm planning on grilled steak and shrimp, corn on the cob, greek salad, and baked potatoes for supper.  Watermelon and smores for dessert.  And a boozy strawberry limeade for a cocktail... this is a new one for me and involves a simple syrup infused with mint from my garden!!  I will post the recipe later.

Tootles!!

Weekend Craziness

This weekend was absolutely crazy!!!
It actually all started last Wednesday evening... I got my hair done.  This took from 6 -10... which sounds crazy but she is a friend and we visit so its all good.  Thursday evening I had my cardio class.  Friday I had my mom lined up to watch the kids so I could golf with the girls in a golf tourney.  It was a shot gun start at 1 and the rain started at 12:59.  Which sucked but we still golfed all 18 holes and got completely soaked!  And maybe over compensated with a few too many drinks...  I got home at 4 in the morning!  YIKES.

Ready to golf!  ( in my size 6 shorts!!!!!!)
WET!!  (I missed the memo that we were taking the rain ponchos off!)

Needless to say I didn't make it to my in-laws the next day for Father's Day.  How irresponsible... I felt terrible.  So me and Morgan went to Brandon and bought Scott a 46" flat screen t.v. and HDPVR for fathers day.  What a surprise when he got home!!  ahaha.  We were going to buy a new t.v. right away anyway and the timing just seemed right.  Plus it is always a great idea to make big decisions when you are hungover right??  It has only been up for a few days now but I am loving the PVR.

Sunday we went to mom and dads for fathers day.  The kids had a great time shooting Nana with their water guns I brought along.  It was a great day!

We started Nixon on baby cereal on Sunday and he seems to really love it.  He's only 5 months old but we started earlier than the recommended 6 months with the other 2 and they are fine.  I was hopeful he would sleep a little better on it but that has not been the case.

Hope that you all had a great weekend and spoiled all the wonderful men in your lives!!!
